More doesn’t always mean better, sometimes less is more. Those are wise words that everybody most likely has heard at some time in their life. Probably you have heard it in the context of makeup, money, or clothing ((less skin showing)). This concept has become increasingly popular with natural look makeup trends and the #modestishottest movement. However, I am going to use that phrase in the context of stuff. Stuff is a very generic term, it essentially encompasses all worldly goods. When I enter my room I see a lot of bare space with sparse amounts of items on the tabletops and shelves. This isn’t because I hide things in drawers and closets or because I shove things under my bed. I just don’t have a lot of stuff and I am really proud of that. It has taken me a long time to declutter and realize that material possessions really weigh me down. I don’t want to be held back by items from my past and I don’t want my stuff to define my status or who I am as a person. I would rather spend my time making memories and experiencing life than accumulating possessions that will either run out, become obsolete, or will be left behind when I pass from this world. Realizing this has really helped me to grow as a person. I don’t like clutter or meaningless possessions. I am fine with not following the trends because trends always go out of style eventually. I am not rooted on this earth and I am not of this world. That being said, I do enjoy the possessions that I have but they do not sustain me. I hope that all of you find your bliss and I thank you for walking with me on my journey. xoxo -runninganorganizedlife

As AP exams approach, half the battle of studying is being able to consistently focus. Follow these simple steps ensure that you get the most out of your study sessions:
- Lighting: make sure the lighting is bright enough to clearly see your materials but isn’t so bright that it is blinding. You can open your curtains to enjoy the sun, a natural source of Vitamin D.
- Noise: wear ear plugs if you are studying in a chaotic area. This will enable you to stay focused and not get distracted by passing people and events occurring around you.
- Schedule breaks: planning specific time periods to relax is a great way to reward and motivate yourself throughout your studies. Scheduled breaks will eliminate wasted time and keep you feeling refreshed.
- Make a to do list: crossing off tasks as you complete them will help you to feel accomplished as you go about studying. A list will also help you to budget your time as you are able to see all of the tasks that need to be completed.
- Healthy snacks: choose snacks that are high in protein and are low in in sodium and sugar. Sodium will make you thirsty while sugar will give a brief high and will ultimately cause you to crash and feel tired again.
- Sleep: make sure to get a good night’s rest prior to studying and sitting for the exam. Do not pull an all-nighter, your brain will not be able to fully function the next morning if you are exhausted.
Our ability to function and the amount of sleep we get is directly related; in order to have a greater amount of energy, try going to bed a little earlier at night!
In the mornings drink something with a little caffeine. A green or English Breakfast tea is the perfect option. Stay away from super sugary drinks though, the sugar will give you a brief boost but the crash after is always terrible. (Coffee is also a suitable option if tea is not your style.)
Surround yourself with positive people, if the people around you are bringing you down, find new friends. Negative people will sap your energy away and will leave you feeling unhappy.
Essential oils are said to have many helpful properties. The orange essential oil can help to boost dropping energy levels. Simply apply the oil to your wrist or load it into the diffuser and enjoy the benefits of this naturally occurring energy booster.
Meditate or pray. A great way to boost energy is to recenter through meditation or prayer. Go to a calm place and take some deep breaths, you will immediately feel relaxed and prepared for what is to come.
Smile or laugh. These simple actions release endorphins which help to improve your mood and will make you feel more relaxed.
If you are really tired and have a few minutes to spare, try taking a power nap. This will only take about 15 minutes and you will awake feeling reenergized. Don’t sleep for more than 30 minutes though, you will enter REM sleep which will cause you to feel groggy upon waking.
A few tips to follow in order to make prom a success:
The Right Dress
Long dresses are typical for the prom dance- make sure to pick a dress that is the right length and style. Take your time and plan ahead so that you will not become stressed when prom gets near!
When asking a date to prom, do it with class and creativity. Come up with a cute sign and some flowers or a small gift. Being in a relationship with your date is no excuse to slack off!!! They still deserve a creative “promposal.”
Date or no Date?
Don’t sweat the small stuff, having a date is not imperative to go to the dance. Find a group of friends to attend with if you do not plan on going with a date; it is better to go with friends you are comfortable with than a random guy or someone you dislike.
This is a tricky topic. The guy will typically buy the ticket for his date. If the couple is going as friends, however, the guy should still offer just to be polite. However, he should not be expected to pay for the tickets.
Similar to tickets, the guy usually buys dinner for his date. But, once again, if the couple is not romantically involved the guy should not be expected to pay. Pick a place that both people enjoy- the dinner will set the tone for the rest of the night!
Packing for a trip can be a potentially stressful endeavor. However, if you address it in an organized manner, you will be able to save time, ensure that you pack all of your essentials, and remain focused.
First, write out a list of everything you will need for your trip. Keep this list organized and create sections for toiletries, clothes, food, and miscellaneous. When packing, a good tip is to roll your clothes- it is a great way to conserve space. In addition, things like cosmetic bags are perfect to keep toiletries orderly.
Next, find a suitcase with appropriate dimensions. The size will depend on how long your journey is expected to be. If you are flying to your destination, make sure that all of your items fulfill travel regulations. You may have to check your bags if you need to bring several large items or excessive amounts of liquids!
When flying, pack a carry-on bag with all of your essentials. Include things like charging cords, a change of clothes, a bathing suit, a few snacks, contacts/glasses, and necessary skin care products. This will ensure that even if your luggage is lost, you will be able to scrape by for at least a day.
In all cases, keep your suitcase organized and make use of the multiple pockets and compartments. Make sure to prepare for potential mishaps on the go, bring a magic eraser or stain removing stick to help you out in a pinch! Also, plan ahead and pack a few hangers if you are bringing dress clothes that could get rumpled or wrinkled.
Have safe travels and enjoy the ride and the destination!
